18th Annual Jersey City LGBT Pride Festival Aug. 25

Gayborhood Jersey City & the Hudson Pride Center will host the 18th Annual Jersey City LGBT Pride Festival on Saturday, August 25 from 1-9 p.m., on Newark Avenue between Grove Street and Jersey Avenue in the heart of historic downtown Jersey City. The Festival is adjacent to major mass transportation: PATH Grove street (two stops from Manhattan) and Bus.

The Jersey City Pride Festival celebrates the diversity of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities and allies of Hudson County and the New York City metropolitan area. Last year the official estimate of attendance at the festival was 14,000-15,000 people. The Jersey City LGBT Pride Festival is recognized not only as the premier LGBT event in Hudson County, but also one of the largest festivals in the Northern New Jersey region. The events of Pride season exemplify the strength and growth of our LGBT & allied communities.

More importantly, Jersey City Pride emphasizes the importance of diversity in our community, making it stronger and more accepting of all individuals and their contributions to our society. We invite you to come celebrate Pride with us.

The Jersey City Flag Raising and Award Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 22 at 3:30pm. In a strong show of support, the Mayor’s Office will be raising both the Gay Pride and Trans Pride flags, and the lamp posts in City Hall Plaza are lit in the Pride Flag colors. Businesses on Newark Avenue will be displaying both flags as well, and the Liberty Science Center will once again display the pride flag on the out side of the planetarium for all to see as they enter Jersey City. Keep an eye out for our PATH ad running on 140 cars starting this week. There are over 30 events scheduled including: a Divas Pride Salsa Brunch, Pride With Your Pup, Fringe Fest Equality Rocks Music Spectacular featuring the Pinc Louds, Lez Fest Dance Party, and a Rainbow Pride Burlesque show to name a few.

On August 25 the Pride Festival will showcase an amazing line-up of entertainment led by our Mistress of Ceremonies, HARMONICA SUNBEAM aka the Queen of Comedy. The Festival will kick off at 1PM with a Pride march on Newark Avenue. The march will be led by Gotham Cheer and the all-women FogoAzul New York City drumline and will start at Grove Street and head up to our main stage on Jersey Avenue. New to the Festival this year will be the addition of a Drag Stage in the lot by Palace Drugs which will be unofficially named Drag Alley for the day. Expect to be swept off your feet with amazing performances by headliner Inaya Day, Jason Walker, Alus, GLO96, Chix Appeal, Jack Tracy, Gonna Be All-Stars featuring: Catacombs, Droze, Keisha Martin and Michael M., and Anais Diva Smith aka IceTheVibe; while Jersey City DJs, DJ Skittlez and Mike Cruz on the main stage, and DJ Chauncey D on the Drag Alley stage, will be keeping your bodies moving and grooving.
