From D. Turi Antiques Show: The 74th Annual Glen Ridge Antiques Show — the longest running show in NJ — returns January 31, & February 1, 2020. The Glen Ridge Antiques Show attracts some of the finest and most diverse dealers from the North East and draws more than 1,000 patrons over two days. All proceeds go to people in need throughout the County via local charities. The show’s clientele returns year after year for its wide selection of antique furniture, art, jewelry, pottery and collectibles. From Liberty State Park, New Jersey State Parks, and Forests & Historic Sites: Help beautify the park by participating in our volunteer gardening program, majorly funded by the Friends of Liberty State Park! Volunteer gardening occurs year-round, weather permitting! Individuals and volunteer groups are very welcomed, with no experience required! No pre-registration needed for individuals and volunteer groups. From Somerset County Park Commission: Horse Care Workshops 101 and 103 will be held at Lord Stirling Stable, 256 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge, New Jersey beginning Saturday, January 4, 2020 (providing weather does not delay currently running programs). Classes will meet for 5 consecutive Saturdays. Workshop 103 will meet from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon and Workshop 101 will meet from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Students in Workshop 101 will learn the basics of “horsekeeping” in a hands-on course taught by Stable staff. Workshop 103 will further develop care and management skills while increasing knowledge of equine behavior. Workshop 101 is a pre- or co-requisite for 103. The classes may be taken concurrently. From North Jersey Pride and HMI for LGBTQ Teens: North Jersey Pride will host a gala at the Maplewood Country Club on Feb. 1st in the theme of “The Roaring Twenties,” with live band, full open bar, dinner stations, dancing and entertainment. An exciting silent auction will feature a range of exclusive items, from dinner with South Orange and Maplewood mayors to center orchestra seats to Hamilton. Allies are very welcome. The winter ball will also fund another year of NJP’s successful RAD Family program for transgender and gender-expansive youth and their families. It began as a playdate with just a few families in 2015 and has since grown exponentially, with families coming from all over New Jersey, including Essex, Sussex, Bergen, Middlesex and Hudson counties. The group holds monthly meetings for RAD Kids (generally 12 and under) and RAD Teens, (generally 13-17) and their parents/guardians. RAD Kids enjoy supervised play with similar children, teens enjoy snacks and chat with a young adult facilitator, while the caregivers gather separately to talk and share experiences and resources.
