Beer connoisseurs looking to sample some new brews are in luck. The Big Brew Beer Fest returns to the Morristown Armory on Saturday, March 3 for its sixth year. The day-long event is divided into two sessions. The first will be held from noon to 4 p.m. and the second from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Allison Kohler, president of JMK Events, which organizes and runs the Big Brew Beer Fest, said more than 225 craft beers will be on tap, and noted that in addition to a solid selection of brews, representatives will be on hand to share their knowledge about ingredients and process.
“We have more than 30 New Jersey breweries signed up this year, with three new ones including Twin Elephant from Chatham, Ship Bottom from Beach Haven, and Icarus from Lakewood,” she said. “We have a People’s Choice Award and attendees can vote on their favorites, and then at the end of the second session, we tally up the votes, and announce the winner. Only one time in all the years we’ve been doing it has a New Jersey brewery not won. New Jersey residents like their New Jersey beers.”Kohler said both sessions include delicious food options that pair perfectly with any kind of ale or lager.
Food vendors include:
• The Bearded One BBQ – Award Winning BBQ
• Bacon Me Crazy – Celebrates Everything Wonderful & Delicious About Bacon.
• The Guac Spot– All-natural Guac avocado-inspired eats!
• Angry Archie’s – Fresh Seafood, Lobster Rolls
• Glazed and Confused – Fresh Mini Donuts
“We have two different bands and the second session will be a little more rockin’ than the first,” Kohler said.
Musicians slated to perform include Sick Star Nation in the afternoon and Stereo Junkies in the evening.
Kohler said that while people often think of a large-scale event as being overcrowded, the Big Brew Beer Festival runs like a well-oiled machine.
“It’s very maneuverable,” she said. “We have about 90 different breweries and maybe there’ll be one person standing on line in front of you. It’s a really great event.”
Bathroom lines are also mercifully brief, she added.
Recognizing that a large crowd, alcohol, and driving is a dangerous combination, the fest provides free shuttle to and from the Morristown Train Station, compliments of the Big Brew.
