Collingswood Crafts and Fine Arts Festival Set for Aug. 18 & 19

From Collingswood Crafts and Fine Arts Festival:

Thirteen is a lucky number for the Collingswood Crafts and Fine Art Festival!  For 2018, the Festival’s 13th year, Collingswood will proudly present more than 150 craft and fine artists who have been selected by a jury for the quality and variety of their latest work Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19 from 10am to 5pm. The event will be held rain or shine. Artists will be on site at their booths to discuss their new pieces and share their passion for creating them.

What artwork will you see? Contemporary designs in wood, glass, clay, metal and fiber. Whether you are looking for a piece of hand-woven clothing for yourself or a unique children’s design, a perfect piece of stained or blown glass or some whimsical metal sculptures for your garden – the Collingswood Craft & Fine Art Festival will provide something unique and beautiful.

If you are intrigued by original watercolor, pastel, collage or oil paintings or if you appreciate fine photographs that capture the beauty in nature or cities, you will appreciate the festival’s fine artists and photographers.

Those who admire the craftsmanship in turned wood and hand-carved figures or handmade musical instruments embellished with wood-burned designs will be excited to find them at the Collingswood Festival. Artisans of functional and decorative furniture or colorful gourd and wooden bird houses will display their clever designs for home or garden.  See clay in many forms:  functional pottery and one-of-a-kind display pieces await the Festival shopper.

Jewelry, both fine and fashion, is a highlight of the Collingswood Festival! Pearls and gems, vintage treasures, ceramic, precious metals, beads, shells, leather and even guitar strings are woven into the artists’ imaginative creations. One can never have too many pairs of earrings, unique bracelets, or stunning necklaces- and handcrafting ensures each piece will be creative and unusual.

If you have a special friend or family member who requires a really unique gift-the Collingswood Crafts and Fine Art Festival artists will surely fill that niche.

What else makes the Festival special? As you stroll the billowing tents along historic and happening Haddon Avenue, try dining al fresco on a delicious shaved ice tropical sundae, world-renowned cheesesteak or “classic” treats like kettle corn, funnel cake, hot dogs or a smoothie. Relax and dine at one of Collingswood’s 20+ popular BYOB restaurants which offer cuisine from all over the world.

Live festival music includes sounds of smooth and New Orleans jazz and pop and folk favorites played by groups throughout the downtown. Bring the whole family to the Festival and try your hand at the family art activities sponsored by Collingswood’s Parke Bank: make a canvas painting, decorate a ceramic tile or create a sand art piece to take home. A talented face-painter and henna artist and a caricaturist add to the Festival fun!

A charity “craft and fine art raffle” tent will offer wonderful items donated by Festival artists which will give everyone a “chance” each day at bringing home something wonderful while also doing something wonderful to benefit a worthy cause.

Collingswood hosts “Market Night” as part of annual Craft and Fine Arts Festival
Entertainment, deals and fun on a closed Haddon Ave – Saturday evening, August 18

See updates and RSVP on the Market Night Facebook event page here.

The weekend of August 18 and 19 in Collingswood is filled with billowing tents, beautiful art, live music and thousands of shoppers for the annual Crafts and Fine Arts Festival.

But on Saturday evening of the festival – it’s quiet. As crafters pack up at 5pm, Haddon Ave remains closed all night long, shoppers clear out and tents shutter for the night. But this year, Haddon Ave will come alive at five on August 18 second Collingswood Market Night.

This is the “after party” for the annual Collingswood Crafts and Fine Arts festival – so while some festival crafters choose to stay open, the focus is on Collingswood businesses and merchant-driven events! Not all festival booths will be open – but there are lots to do all along Collingswood’s downtown. Parties, games, music, movies, sales and specials from local businesses. Residents, families and guests are invited as Collingswood merchants fill the empty streets and invite the region to come together.

Collingswood’s Night Market will include:
-Sidewalk Sale from local merchants
-Restaurant specials, festival/ street food from local restaurants and outdoor dining area
-Art from select festival vendors and local artists
-Outdoor cycling class with upcycle collingswood
-BYOChair throwback movie night, Woodlawn Ave
-Atari Party, Dig This, 717 Haddon Ave
-Family games and entertainment from ExtraordinaryED, 808 Haddon area
-Lawn Chair Concerts – Zane School/Millennium Clock at Haddon & Irvin Aves
-Wild Woman Story Slam: Stories of Survival, Success and Sacrifice, Galerie Marie, 709 Haddon Ave

-More events TBA!

The idea for Collingswood’s first Night Market came from local business owners that noticed an opportunity in the closed street the Saturday evening of the two day Craft and Fine Art Festival, which permits artists to leave their tents in place for the weekend.

“This is all about using our spaces to provide more for our community and the region,” said Cass Duffey Collingswood’s Director of Community Development.
