From the Maplewood Office of Cultural Affairs:
Once again boasting a wide-ranging mix of musical styles, Maplewood’s Springfield Avenue Gazebo Concert Series returns this summer beginning on July 19 and running through August 16. All concerts are on Friday nights starting at 7:00 pm. and are free and open to the public.
For a second year in a row, the Maplewood Office of Cultural Affairs has partnered with HONK NYC to engage artists who cross genres and defy expectations. “HONK provides us with access to offbeat and lesser known performers that would otherwise not be on our radar,” said Maplewood Office of Cultural Affairs Manager Andrew Fishman. “Their eclectic sensibilities are also a good match for Maplewood and we are lucky to have them on board”.
Series kicks off on Friday, July 19 with local drummer Greg Bufford leading his band for a jazzy celebration of the music of Stevie Wonder. They’ll be followed on July 26 by the XOL AZUL BAND whose Latin infused rock recalls the sound of the legendary band Santana. Jamaica by way of the Bronx arrives on August 2, when Nando Griffiths and the Kingston 8 bring their unique mix of Afro beat, Reggae, Soul and R&B to the Gazebo
