From Chocolate Week: Chocolate Week is back! Taking place February 10 – 17, it brings a series of offers, activities and events that include Valentine’s Day and President’s Day Weekend. Keeping the focus on simple pleasures that tie in with Valentine’s Day and mid winter escapes, the Southern Ocean County Chamber coordinates local businesses and organizations to extend special promotions, offers and classes that are being to create a sweet vibe throughout the Long Beach Island Region of the Jersey Shore, including Long Beach Island and locations from Little Egg Harbor up through Lacey Township. A good place to start for all 21 and over is the Southern Ocean Made Surf and Sip Brew Trail featuring offerings and events from four local craft breweries as well as surf experience related galleries, shops and hands on exhibits to keep that summer feeling coming throughout the winter. The American Vegan Society (AVS) will host a VALENTINE’S DINNER at Carême’s in Mays Landing NJ with choice to attend on Monday, February 18 or Tuesday, February 19 2019 at 6:30 pm. Culinary students will prepare and present a meal of exceptional quality under the guidance of Chef-Educators. These future masters of haute cuisine are learning to cook gourmet vegan! Chef Linda Wohlman planned the menu: Arancini di Riso with Truffle-studded Pomodoro Sauce; Soup Bowl of Smoked Tofu and Veggies in a Spicy Broth; Fig-Olive-Citrus Salad with Baby Greens, Wild Rice, Lemon-Dijon Dressing; Potato Spaghetti with Walnut Pesto, Zucchini Meat Balls, and Herbed Ricotta. Dessert: Tiramisu with Cocoa Nib-Espresso Dust. Come early for a kitchen tour and to purchase cookbooks. Legendary singer Johnny Mathis, celebrating over 60 years as a recording artist, performs his greatest hits such as “Chances Are” and “Misty” as well as his personal favorites March 15 at 8 p.m. at Mayo Performing Arts Center. From MPAC: Come hear why Johnny will always be the Voice of Romance! The fourth of seven children, John Royce Mathis was born on September 30, 1935 in Gilmer, Texas to Clem & Mildred Mathis. As a small boy, the family moved to Post Street in San Francisco. It was there that he learned an appreciation of music from his father Clem who taught him his first song, “My Blue Heaven”. At age eight, Johnny’s father purchased an old upright piano for $25, which wouldn’t fit through the front door when he brought it home. So that evening, he stayed up all night to watch his father dismantle the piano, move the pieces into the small living room of their basement apartment, and then reassemble it. Clem, who worked briefly as a musician back in Texas playing the piano and singing on stage, would continue to teach his son many songs and routines. Johnny had proven to be the most eager of […]
