Mini Bats, Rally Towels, Run the Bases! — Somerset Patriots Opening Weekend April 27-29

The Somerset Patriots open their 20th Season at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, April 27th with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Road Warriors.

The 20th Season celebration of TD Bank Ballpark follows a very successful 2017 campaign that saw the Somerset Patriots lead the Atlantic League in total and average attendance and host the league’s All-Star Game in Bridgewater.

“The support from our fans and partners never ceases to amaze me,” said Somerset Patriots Chairman Steve Kalafer. “To accomplish all we did in 2017, 20 seasons in, is remarkable. It shows that we continue to grow. That we continue to reinvent ourselves and make the Somerset Patriots more and more relevant each year. I could not be more proud of the season or more excited about our future.”

Manager Brett Jodie’s squad will include familiar faces mixed in with several new players on the roster. Returning players include slugging outfielder Kyle Roller (.326, 22 home runs, 77 RBI), clutch-hitting catcher Yovan Gonzalez (.291, 31 RBI, four walk off hits), All-Star left-handed pitcher Rick Teasley (7-2, 2.85 ERA), and fan-favorite Scott Kelly (25 stolen bases, 31 RBI).

Highlighting the 12 Major Leaguers on this year’s roster is former New York Met outfielder Endy Chavez, who is best known for one of the greatest catches in MLB Post-Season history in Game 7 of the NLCS.

The team will also welcome newcomer Nate Roe (right-handed pitcher), a former Rutgers standout and 2017 Atlantic League All-Star with the New Britain Bees.

The Somerset Patriots will begin Spring Training at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday, April 17th to prepare for the season and get the final roster set for Opening Day.

The 2018 season kicks off with a Post Game Fireworks Show and Schedule Magnets for all fans presented by Somerset Health Care Foundation on Friday, April 27th.

The series continues with a 7:05 pm game on Saturday, April 28th featuring Rally Towels for the first 2,000 fans courtesy of Unity Bank.

Opening Weekend concludes on Sunday, April 29th with a 1:05 pm game. The first 1,000 kids will receive a Mini Bat presented by Ford. The game also features Girls Softball Day with a pre-game clinic at 11:00 am on the field with coaches and instructors from the Jennie Finch Softball Academy at Diamond Nation.

The April 29th game also includes the first Sunday Autograph Session presented by the Somerset County Park Foundation and everyone gets to Run The Bases after the game courtesy of Bath Fitter.
