Morristown Festival of Books Hosts Renowned Authors Oct. 12 & 13

Morristown Festival of Books

Modeled after successful book festivals in other communities throughout the world, the Morristown Festival of Books brings together acclaimed authors with readers and book lovers. The festival will be held Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13.

The 2018 Festival, a rain-or-shine event, will feature a full roster of authors, including Joyce Carol Oates, A.J. Finn, Kate Morton, and more. Authors will speak and answer questions in one-hour sessions at one of several convenient Morristown locations. Book sales and signings, following author presentations, will occur at a tent on the grounds of the historic Vail Mansion.

Why Morristown?

Morristown is an ideal location for a Festival of Books. It is accessible for both authors and attendees throughout the NJ/NY/Pennsylvania area and beyond. Several of Morristown’s iconic historic locations have embraced the Festival and opened their doors to host the author venues. Our vibrant and diverse community has a bustling town center, an active arts community, and avid readers from all walks of life. And finally, in Morristown and surrounding communities we have an abundance of dedicated book lovers to volunteer, organize and support this ground-breaking event.

Where will the authors speak?

The Festival venues include the Morristown and Morris Township Library, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, St. Peter’s Parish Hall, The Parish House of the Presbyterian Church, Church of the Redeemer, the Mayo Performing Arts Center and the lawn at Vail Mansion. These prominent local landmarks are located within a one-block area, making it easy to travel from venue to venue.

Former Senator and Secretary of State John Kerry, in a sold-out even, will discuss his new memoir, Every Day Is Extra. Kerry tells the story of his remarkable American life—from son of a diplomat to decorated Vietnam veteran, five-term United States senator, 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, and Secretary of State for four years—and reflects upon some of the most important events of our recent history.

Who is the Festival for?

The Festival is for everyone! Our author selections are designed to appeal to a variety of ages and reading interests. Included in the line-up will be both fiction and non-fiction writers in various genres. Join us for one author, or make a day of it and listen to up to four authors. You may find your favorite author or have fun visiting venues to listen to others not as familiar to you.
