From Gail Schoenberg Public Relations:

On National Noodle Day, Saturday, October 6, a mix of 10 former and new contestants gathered at Ani Ramen House Jersey City eager to consume mass amounts of noodles at the second annual Slurp, Sip, Repeat Ramen Eating Contest by Ani Ramen House and Sun Noodle. One boisterous contestant, a local Jersey City firefighter got the group all fired-up with his smack talk.  Dexter Lopina, a returning 3-year alumni of the contest suited up again, this year as “Wolverine”.

However, 10 minutes and eight (8) bowls later a new champ emerged, Wayne Algenio of Queens, New York unseating two-year champ Sebastian Voltarelli.  Voltarelli who came in second with seven (7) bowls consumed may have been at a slight disadvantage this year since he was suited up for a wedding he was attending immediately after.  Just behind him in 3rd place was another newcomer, Charles Creamer from Hoboken finishing with six (6) bowls. The proceeds raised from the evening will benefit No Kid Hungry.

The new winner of the Ani Ramen Golden Chopsticks (good for 1 year of free ramen at any Ani Ramen location) and grand prize ($1K value all-inclusive celebratory chef’s tasting dinner for 10), Algenio told us “I have done a lot of food competitions, with this being my second go at ramen eating.”  Algenio even has his own namesake YouTube channel where his fans can indulge in his competitive eating.  Word is that even after consuming eight bowls he was seen enjoying dinner at Ani Ramen.  Impressive.

Ani Ramen Owner, Luck Sarabhayavanija said, “We are pleased to have completed our third successful competition with returning competitors as well as some new ones.  While it was sad to see Sebastian lose the title, we’re happy for Wayne.  We hope to see them both back to compete again next year.”
