From Achieve Foundation of South Orange and Maplewood: Our 17th Annual Newstead 5K will be happening on September 21 this year starting at 9AM. This fun, family-friendly event is open to community members of all fitness levels and is one of Achieve’s major fundraisers. The race route is a rolling 5K (3.1 mile) course in the quiet residential Newstead neighborhood, with chip timing provided by CompuScore. The morning event includes a 2-mile walk option for those who’d rather walk than run. A half-mile Kids Fun Run, sponsored by Able Baker, will happen after the 5K (at approximately 9:45). Race time is 9:00 a.m., beginning at the South Mountain School Annex, 112 Glenview Rd., South Orange. Presenting sponsor D&I Fitness will lead participants in fun and dynamic warm-up exercises prior to race start, and will provide their six-week race training plan that can help get anyone up to speed and ready to run. From Pathways of History: A much anticipated annual event full of surprises and revelations. This year’s tour features 18 groups and 20 historic properties spanning almost 300 years of Morris County history! It’s an extraordinary event that provides the unprecedented opportunity to visit multiple museums. Many things have changed at venues during the past ten years. Make this a family day – drive your vintage automobile, bring the kiddies and grandparents, too! At each site there will be a newly designed tour guide/map to direct you to your next history stop of choice. More information
From Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce: This Seafood festival is held downtown on both Arnold and Bay Avenues. Local restaurants and vendors provide the large crowds with delicacies such as crab cakes, shrimp skewers, paella, soups and bisque’s, lobster, and other seafood items. Don’t like seafood? No problem, there are plenty of other varieties of food to sample! We have hundreds of craft vendors featuring hard to find and unique items. For entertainment, there is a stage set up on that plays host to local musicians and other acts. The festival begins in the shopping district between Rt 35 South and Rt. 35 North and goes all the way down to the Point Pleasant Boro border. Rain Date: 9/22/2019. More information.

From Luna Stage: Luna Stage kicks off their new American Voices Series (and the 2019-2020 season) with Soo Jin Pretty Nail (and more!), written and performed by South Orange resident Susan Hyon and directed by David Skeist. This darkly comic work is inspired by Hyon’s childhood as the youngest of four unhappy Korean-American children in suburban Pennsylvania. A lively, interactive experience for curious and adventurous theatergoers, Soo Jin… will be the inaugural performance in the newly-renovated Luna2. Suggested for mature students, ages 16 and older. From MPAC: Three groups at the center of the 1960s Folk Revival continue to delight fans with their smooth musical sounds: The Kingston Trio (“Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” “Tom Dooley”), The Brothers Four (“Try to Remember”) and The Limeliters (“Take My True Love by the Hand”). The groups perform at Mayo Performing Arts Center on Sunday, September 22 at 7 pm. Tickets are $39-$79. The Kingston Trio began with Nick Reynolds, Bob Shane and Dave Guard in 1955 — Home base: San Francisco. The three founded what turned out to be the most influential music band to emerge from the 1950s. With talent and tenacity, they rose to become the undisputed kings of an acoustic musical genre that exploded onto the American scene, and still exists today!
