South Orange Symphony to Hold Open Rehearsal Tuesday, September 5

The following is from the South Orange Symphony:

South Orange Symphony, the town’s own resident community orchestra, kicks off its concert season with an Open Rehearsal and Orchestra Social on Tuesday, September 5th at 7:30 p.m. at SOMS.

Interested musicians from around the area are welcome to play along with orchestra members as they sight-read selections for their upcoming November concert.  The rehearsal will take place on the main stage of South Orange Middle School at 70 North Ridgewood Road, South Orange.  Susan Haig of Summit, a professional conductor with impressive credentials here and abroad, leads the orchestra with weekly rehearsal each Tuesday night, culminating in three free concerts for the public each season.

The Orchestra is comprised of local and regional talent who share the love of classical music, a mix ranging from high schoolers to retirees–doctors, lawyers, teachers, and more. One does not have to be a resident of South Orange to join the orchestra!  On this particular Tuesday night, it will be a level playing field–none of the players have seen the music for these pieces before!  String players are always welcome, even ones who are a bit rusty!

There are more limited openings in the wind sections of the orchestra.  For more information about the Open Rehearsal or about South Orange Symphony, email southorangesym@aol.com or visit www.sosymphony.org.
