SOMA Cross-Cultural Works, the non-profit organization behind last year’s inaugural DiwaliFestNJ and this spring’s LunarFestNJ, has once again partnered with the Township of Maplewood to host the second annual DiwaliFestNJ, a unique multicultural celebration of Diwali (Indian festival of lights) for the whole community.

Marking an important holiday in many South Asian cultures, DiwaliFestNJ will kick off at 12:30pm on Sunday October 28 with performances by a variety of groups performing, for example, classical and Bollywood dance, Indian/Western fusion and a cappella, and Dhol (Indian drumming.) Food vendors include the Tandoori Trailer and DosaSpot food trucks, as well as the local restaurants of Bayleaf, Curry Tub and Rajni. There will be many kids’ activities such as henna and rangoli art, diya (lamp) making, storytime and cooking demonstrations.Supported by volunteers from Maplewood and South Orange, DiwaliFestNJ provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy and celebrate together as friends and neighbors and is expected to attract visitors from across northern and central New Jersey.
