From RunSignUp: This is one of the best 5K races held in northern New Jersey and still only $25 if you pre-register ($20 for USATF members) with no extra fees for online registration. There is also a 1 mile fun run and health walk around Verona Park. The 5K race is a USATF-NJ grand prix event on a fast USATF certified course through the streets of Verona with the start on Lakeside Avenue and a scenic finish in Verona Park. This race is organized entirely by volunteers from Verona UNICO and the Essex Running Club with all proceeds going towards local charities and scholarships. From Denville String Band: Large fun parade that begins at Main St and Tempe Wick Rd in Mendham and proceeds along Main St, turns right on Mountain Ave and ends at Borough Field. The weather may be hot but you’ll still have fun! More information

From the South Plainfield Public Celebrations Committee: Our 62nd annual parade begins at 10am at the SP PAL building and make it’s way down Maple Ave and Plainfield Ave; ending at the Middle School. Immediately following the parade, please join us at the middle school festivities; for food, drinks, live music, and tons of vendors!! The fun-filled day ends with a an amazing fireworks display at dusk in Spring Lake Park. This year’s parade theme is “Veterans… Always Serving”. From Essex County Environmental Center: Monday, September 2 10am to 12pm OR 2pm to 4pm For adults and children ages 10 and older. Take a leisurely paddle on the Passaic River! Paddlers will enjoy scenery and peacefulness as they paddle up the river and float downstream. Geared for beginners and children 10 and up accompanied by a parent or guardian.
