Chester exudes charm year-round but never more so than during the holiday season. While some gift seekers may be tempted to hit the mall or make their purchases online, completing your holiday shopping in the quaint Morris County borough, which boasts more than 80 specialty stores, supports local business at the same time it warms your heart. In-store events, sales, and complimentary treats abound throughout the historic downtown, spreading holiday cheer to all who visit.
Let’s take a look at the festive events planned for the rest of December.
Now that New Jersey has had its first snowfall of the season, we might as well embrace ice in its many forms. On the more playful side of precipitation, Ice Works, a full-service event ice company, puts its carving talents on full display Saturday, Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Chester. Come and watch as these artisans transform a block of ice into a stunning sculpture.
Who doesn’t appreciate an unexpected gift? Every weekend through Dec. 17, special “holiday helpers” stroll throughout the downtown giving away Historic Chester Business Association member-affiliated gift certificates and other prizes to lucky shoppers.
A Dickensian Christmas
Celebrating the spirit of a Dickens tale, Father Christmas can be found spreading good tidings throughout Downtown Chester on Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17 from noon to 4 p.m. at The Streets of Chester Shopping Center.
Sounds of the season
Providing a festive soundtrack, S.C.3. Entertainment presents ‘Sounds of the Holiday.’ Morris County’s premier DJ and event company will be live in downtown Chester spinning classic holiday hits Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17 from noon to 4 p.m. at The Streets of Chester Shopping Center.
Bubbles & handbags
Couture Traders hosts its Champagne and Couture Holiday Wishlist Party on Tuesday, Dec. 19 from 5 to 8 pm. Finish your shopping or treat yourself to an almost-new designer handbag.
Santa stops by Alstede Farm
Catch up with jolly old St. Nick when he visits Alstede Farm Saturdays and Sunday through Dec. 24. After you share your wish list, enjoy a cup of warm cider or a seasonal ice cream treat. Pick up your holiday pies while you’re there!
