Who needs to travel to New Orleans when Mardi Gras celebrations are taking place all over the Garden State? Whether you want to listen to live jazz or make your own mask, you’ve got plenty of options. So, grab your beads and get ready to eat your king cake close to home because Fat Tuesday festivities abound, with something kicking off early and lingering into the following weekend.

Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball – Asbury Park
The third Annual Asbury Park Mardi Gras mask-making and masquerade ball will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 1 to 9 p.m. with a range of events.
From 1 to 5 p.m. :Pick up your free, undecorated mask at Backward Glances, inside the Shoppes at the Arcade, 658 Cookman Avenue. Visit participating businesses downtown to receive free decorations to apply to your mask. Tables with glue will be set up at the Shoppes at the Arcade to design your own special Mardi Gras creation. Enter the mask making contest for great prizes! Artist Raven will be on hand for free face painting.
At 7 p.m.
The 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball! This year’s ball will be held at a new cool venue: the Asbury Park Brewery, 810 Sewall Avenue. So enjoy local, craft beer while dancing the night away to our Mardi Gras favorites, the VooDUDES! Starting off the night will be the cooking sounds of HP and His Hot Take Out Band.
Dress in your best Mardi Gras attire to win the costume contest for amazing prizes from the Asbury Park merchants. $20 advance, $25 day of show
Verve – Somerville
Make Mardi Gras a three-day event at Verve in Somerville from Sunday, Feb. 11 through Feb. 13. Partial Proceeds benefit Matheny Medical and Educational Center.

The Ryland Inn – White House Station
Celebrate Fat Tuesday at The Ryland Inn. The White House Station restaurant is throwing a Mardi Gras party in its Duck Bar on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Live music featuring Zydeco Music, Bourbon Punch, Beads, Poo Boys, and more!

Mardi Gras @ the Point – Somers Point
Celebrate Mardi Gras @ the Point on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point.

MARDI GRAS 2018 @ Reef & Barrel – Manasquan
Grab Your Beads & Your Party Hats and revel in some Fat Tuesday fun at Reef & Barrel on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 6 to 10 p.m.
Featuring, New Orleans Style Jazz & Funk, drink specials all evening and a special Bourbon Street menu. Beads, masks, and party favors will be given to all guests

LSC After Dark: Mardi Gras – Jersey City
New Orleans is coming to Liberty Science Center on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 10 p.m.
LSC After Dark: Mardi Gras features a masquerade bash, in which you’ll immerse yourself in festive experiments, delicious drinks from Bourbon Street, while learning the physics of bartending with STEM educators. Meet aquatic creatures from the Louisiana Bayou. Receive a masquerade makeover from the School of Makeup Effects. During the festivities, you’ll get to feast on snacks from local vendors, courtesy of Midnight Market NJ. Each food plate is $5 (cash only, please).
You can also experience LSC’s Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the largest and most technologically advanced planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. Get tickets now for a discounted online price, $20 per person. Tickets are $5 more at the door.
