NJ Next recently gave readers the scoop on the best vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants in northern New Jersey. Central Jersey has many wonderful vegetarian, vegan, and vegan-friendly restaurants as well. Get ready for juice bars, ice cream parlors, Mediterranean cuisine, Indian cuisine, vegetarian/vegan sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, and much more. Lots of veg choices and plenty of flavors await in every region of our state!

Asbury Park

Juice Basin crafts delicious and artisan organic cold-press juices, blended nut “mylks” (vegan milks), rich smoothies, raw foods, and gourmet superfoods.

Cookman Creamery is an artisanal ice cream shop offering “medicinal vegan ice cream made with a coconut cream base, sweetened with agave and brown rice syrup…infused with herbal and supplementary ingredients designed to heal, nourish, and rejuvenate the body & mind.” Vegan soft serve, sundaes, and ice cream sandwiches. Just what the doctor ordered!

Betty’s Ice Box serves vegan, all natural, and gluten and lactose free shave ice and small batch artisan ice pops. They use organic fruits and herbs.

Eddie Confetti’s offers a variety of flavors and some are vegan–including caramel fudge and cookies and cream.

Bradley Beach

Belmar

Kaya’s Kitchen is a vegan restaurant with breakfast, combo plates, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and specials.

Brielle

Anna Banana Vegan-friendly vegetarian restaurant offering organic, raw, fast food, and Juice Bar take out.

Carteret

Khalsa Sweet House serves freshly made vegetarian Northern Indian Punjabi food.

Clinton

Grounded For Life Café is a vegetarian café with vegan options. The café features American, organic, and raw foods.

Just Chill Frozen Desserts & Creperie features vegan desserts including protein smoothies, non-dairy desserts, and toppings. They also make fresh acai bowls with 55 fresh toppings and offer vegan, lean, or whey.

Colts Neck

East Windsor

Dosai Place is a vegetarian Indian restaurant with Southern Indian cuisine. They specialize in Dosas, Indian pancakes made from fermented rice and black gram batter. They look a bit like crepes.Vegan-friendly.

Edison

Saravana Bhavan specializes in vegetarian Southern Indian food. Cick on their link to see their extensive menu.

Swagath Gourmet‘s site says that they prepare “traditional, healthy, authentic, and tasty” vegetarian Indian food.

East Brunswick

Giddy’s Pizzeria http://www.giddyspizzeria.com/ serves Italian, Mediterranean, & kosher food. It’s vegetarian and many dishes can be veganized: falafel wraps and sandwiches plus grilled vegetables.

Fair Haven

Franklin Park

Bangalore Express is a vegetarian Southern and Northern Indian cuisine restaurant. They are vegan-friendly so just ask what can be prepared dairy-free.

Flemington

16 Handles frozen yogurt shop offers 2-3 vegan sorbets each day: Clockwork Orange, Green Apple, Key Lime, Peach Sangria, Pomegranate Raspberry, Superfruit Acai, and more. Bonus points for fun names.

Freehold

Frenchtown

Pulp Cafe and Juice Bar is a vegan-friendly vegetarian restaurant with a tempeh bacon cheeseburger, juices, smoothies, tea, and coffee.

Howell

Bengali Sweet House is a Kosher and vegan-friendly fast food Indian restaurant featuring Indian desserts, thali (multiple dishes served on a big platter), and snacks.

Bombay Talk serves Vegetarian South Indian, Chinese, and Thai cuisine. Vegan friendly.

Dimple’s Khasiyat offers vegetarian Indian fast food. Some dishes have ghee (South Asian clarified butter made from the milk of a buffalo or cow).

Dosa Express is a fast food Vegetarian Southern Indian restaurant selling snacks, dosas (Indian rice and black gram fermented batter pancake), and rice dishes.

Sri Dosa Place is a Southern Indian vegetarian restaurant that will prepare any dish on the menu vegan.

Sukhadias Gokul vegetarian Indian restaurant has vegan options. They serve lunch and dinner buffets on the weekend.

Talk of the Town offers vegetarian Southern Indian fare including dosas.

Lavallette

Kali-O’s Juicebox has cold pressed juices, smoothies, acai bowls, granola, snack balls, Greek yogurt parfaits, wellness shots, chia pudding, vegan ‘Nice Cream sandwiches and vegan cheesecake, and Seed to Sprout baked goods and savory dishes.

Long Branch

The Herd Juicery is a raw, gluten-free, and organic vegan juice bar. Smoothies, smoothie bowls, soups, and sandwiches are available for take out only.

The Juice Theory is a vegan, organic, and kosher juice bar with cold pressed juice, smoothies, acai bowls, sandwiches, toasts, salads—including build your own, and desserts.

Marlboro

Papa Ganache is a gluten-free vegan bakery and restaurant offering soup, sandwiches, corn bread, chili, cakes, muffins, brownies, cinnamon buns, pastries, and cookies. They have vegan dog treats, too.

Vegan Tree has American food as well as a mix of Asian dishes. Some of their specialties are noodles, ramen, veggie burgers, and scallion pancakes.

Middletown

New Brunswick

Veganized makes sandwiches, wraps, entrees, and desserts. Cashew cheese and sweet potato buns are a couple of their unique offerings.

George Street Co-op & Cafe features organic juices, smoothies, salads, and wraps. The Co-op is downstairs and offers natural foods.

Oakhurst

Broad Street Dough Co is a doughnut shop with some vegan- and gluten-free selections.

Ortley Beach

Kali-O’s Juicebox has cold pressed juices, smoothies, acai bowls, granola, snack balls, Greek yogurt parfaits, wellness shots, chia pudding, vegan ‘Nice Cream sandwiches and vegan cheesecake, and Seed to Sprout baked goods and savory dishes.

Piscataway

Chand Palace serves Southern and Northern Indian cuisine. It’s vegan-friendly and specializes in dosas and chaat (crispy, crunchy, spicy, tangy Indian snacks).

Sukh Sagar is a vegetarian Indian restaurant offering Southern and Northern Indian food. They have a lunch buffet during the week and an all-you-can-eat breakfast on the weekends. Fridays they have a Dosa dinner special.

Point Pleasant Beach

Contemplate Kitchen offers nutrient-filled baked goods, salads, cold-pressed juices, plant-based meals, and puddings.

Red Bank

Good Karma Café is a vegan and organic juice bar and bakery with soup, salad, wraps, bowls, and much more.

Seaside Heights

Adyar Ananda Bhavan is a vegetarian Indian restaurant. Vegan options. Offers Jain food– vegetarian excluding onions, potatoes, and garlic, similar to the shojin-ryori Buddhist cuisine of Japan.

Tom’s River

Ocean Organics is a vegan, raw, non-GMO, and organic juice bar with a whole foods cafe. Serving many interesting juices, breakfast wraps, avocado toast, skillets, chili, salad, juice cleanses, acai bowls, pitaya (cactus juice/dragonfruit) bowls, and more.

Wanamassa

Saravana Bhavan is a vegetarian Southern Indian restaurant specializing in Rava Dosa (semolina, rice flour, and often with chopped onions, curry leaves, and herbs), Parotta (layered flatbread), noodles, Adai Avial (dosa made with lentils and rice, often served with vegetable and coconut stew), and Chola Bhature (Punjabi combination of chana masala—spicy chick peas–and bhatura fluffy, deep-fried bread).
