The Herb & Milly Iris Gallery at the South Orange Performing Arts Center hosts a new exhibition by Jenny Flexner Reinhardt December 10, 2018-February 22, 2019. A reception open to the public will take place December 13, 5:30-8:30 p.m. In The Price of Sugar, Reinhardt has woven the theme of the bright and seductive appeal of sugar and confectionary, along with its dark side; the addiction, the excess and the disease. Sugar is both sweet and dangerous. Reinhardt is inspired by the bravado of the middle-of-the-night street artist. While not a nocturnal painter herself, she is fascinated by the guerrilla-esque talents of the stencil maker, the spray-painter and the tagger. Her work is part graffiti, part abstraction with figurative form and vintage graphic design thrown in for good measure. It is a heady mixture that guarantees an interesting narrative and will keep you exploring the images for all their hidden elements of literature, history and cultural references that are subconscious elements of life. From Somerset County Park Commission: Somerset County Park Commission Leonard J. Buck Garden will begin celebrating the coming of Spring by hosting the annual “Art & Photography Exhibit” focusing on the beauty of the diverse moods and seasons of Leonard J. Buck Garden. The Exhibit will be presented in the Leonard J. Buck Garden Visitor’s Center at 11 Layton Road, Far Hills, New Jersey, and will be open Tuesday, February 19 through Friday, March 22, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Monday to Friday only. There will be a special weekend viewing on Saturday, March 9 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 P.M. Admission is free on all days. Creative works on display will feature the Leonard J. Buck Garden as seen through the eyes of a wide range of talented individuals, from dedicated hobbyists to working professionals. The photographs and paintings show the Garden from many perspectives, from sweeping landscape views to portraits of individual flowers. From Morris Museum: Dr. Seuss Family Fun Day Saturday, March 2, 2019, 11:00AM – 4:00PM Early Access for Families with Disabilities at 10:00AM Celebrate the birthday of one of the most beloved children’s authors. Enjoy readings of Dr. Seuss classics throughout the day and make a hat like the Cat’s. Kids are welcome to come dressed as their favorite Seuss character. Enjoy the children’s show Seussology in the Bickford Theatre at 11:00AM and 1:30PM (separate admission fee of $12).

From Jersey City Arts Council: Art Fair 14C March 15 -17 in Jersey City. There are just a few days left to take advantage of a unique opportunity for artists and galleries. Art Fair 14C is an initiative of the Jersey City Arts Council, a 501c3 non-profit – and was created with the mission to support and strengthen the visual arts. Art fairs represent nearly half of global art sales, and yet most small and medium sized galleries are shut out, and many artists lack gallery representation. Therefore, the need for Art Fair 14C. We welcome any gallery, arts organization or individual artist to apply for an Art Fair 14C exhibition room at the Hyatt Regency – and pay solely the price of the room: $249 per night. Frida Kahlo: Dreams, Demons and Devotion March 21 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm Frida Kahlo’s paintings illustrate the anguish and passion of a fascinating and complicated life. The astonishing works of this Mexican and feminist icon will be looked at through the lens of her ethnicity, disabilities and political activism. In addition, this talk will prepare you well for the Brooklyn Museum of Art’s exhibition Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving, on view from February 8 until May 12.
