Camp Riverbend ‘Safari’ Open House Choosing a camp for this summer? Go wild at Camp Riverbend’s “Safari” Open House Saturday February 23, 10 am – 12 noon. There will be lots of fun indoor Riverbend activities, including games, crafts and cooking for kids and parents, run by our amazing counselors. Take a tour of the camp site with our directors. Free! Date: Sunday, February 10—Sunday, February 24 Time: 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Location: Great Swamp OEC, 247 Southern Blvd., Chatham Township. Cost: $3 per person age 3 & up. From Morris County Park Commission: SNOWSHOE SUNDAYS AT PYRAMID MOUNTAIN NHA Snowshoe Sundays at Pyramid Mountain NHA Ages 10 & Up. Get outside and active this winter, and experience the unique and exhilarating sport of snowshoeing! Enjoy a guided trek exploring the beautiful winter scenery and looking for signs of wildlife – all while getting a great workout. No experience is necessary. Please call in advance regarding conditions. If you already know how to snowshoe or want to venture out on your own, various sizes, including children’s, are available for one-day rental and use at Pyramid Mountain NHA. You must be 18 years or older to rent shoes, and a photo ID or rental deposit of $10/pair per day by cash is required. Shoes can be rented between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and must be returned by 4 pm the same day. Date:Sunday, January 6—Sunday, March 10 Time:1 p.m. if renting shoes, 1:30 p.m. if using your own. Location: Pyramid Mountain Natural Historical Area, 472 Boonton Avenue, Montville Township (Intersection of Mars Court and Boonton Avenue). Known as the “Pied Piper of Pre-Schoolers” or the “Queen of Kindie Rock,” Laurie Berkner is an industry unto herself. The singer will perform two shows at the McCarter Theatre March 2. The 11 a.m. performance is a special solo acoustic Relaxed Performance. Designed for people on the autism spectrum, with cognitive and developmental differences, other sensory or communication needs, Relaxed Performances provide a welcoming and judgment-free environment so that they and their families may enjoy live performance together—everyone is welcome! A second show will be presented at 3 p.m. She has been a long-time fixture of children’s television (Noggin, Jack‘s Big Music Show and Sing It, Laurie!) and her original songs, music videos, books, and three original off-Broadway musicals have made her ubiquitous in American households.  

From Morris Museum: Dr. Seuss Family Fun Day Saturday, March 2, 2019, 11:00AM – 4:00PM Early Access for Families with Disabilities at 10:00AM Celebrate the birthday of one of the most beloved children’s authors. Enjoy readings of Dr. Seuss classics throughout the day and make a hat like the Cat’s. Kids are welcome to come dressed as their favorite Seuss character. Enjoy the children’s show Seussology in the Bickford Theatre at 11:00AM and 1:30PM (separate admission fee of $12).

Make a Hat like the Cat’s, create a greeting to share on our birthday board, find a quiet time and comfy chair to explore a Dr. Seuss book with your child, explore photo op stations, experience a children’s show (Seussology) in our theatre at 11:00AM and 1:30PM (separate fee) and more! There is early access for families with Disabilities at 10:00AM. For Family Fun Day: FREE for Museum Members, FREE with Museum Admission for Non-Members. Children’s Theatre: $11 for Members, $14 for Non-Members. For $15 get a Combo ticket with Museum Admission and a Childdren’s Theatre ticket.

WheatonArts hosts the New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s Stages Festival on March 23 at 2 p.m. with a special production of “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” presented by Surflight Theatre. FREE and open to the public, this show is appropriate for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. In this delightful adaptation of Judith Viorst’s popular book, Alexander’s rather trying life is set to music and brings to the stage one of America’s most spirited characters. Alexander’s struggles with life’s daily dramas will not only entertain but educate young audiences as they identify with Alexander and the obstacles he encounters, encouraging them to share their feelings and to realize that everybody has bad days sometimes.
